Three of our staff members are taking on the Great North Run this year in order to raise money for Action Foundation.  Our staff already give so much time and hard work to Action Foundation, so we really appreciate them taking on this enormous challenge in their spare time!

Meet Maria, Celia and Dave…

Mariahttps://www.goldengiving.com/fundraising/GNR-AF-MariaF

Maria is our Action Language Administrator, originally from Spain, who works tirelessly to keep our Language school running smoothly. Maria has run the Great North Run for Action Foundation four times and each time she amazes us with her sheer determination.

“I am hoping to raise some money for Action Foundation to support the fantastic work the charity does helping asylum seekers and refugees, but this year it seems that their work would be even more needed than ever! Working in the Language project, I can see how difficult is for refugees to integrate with so many barriers!”

After last year’s route was cancelled, Maria is raring to go this year – “Really excited to run this year’s new route and also it will feel different after so long to be with so many other runners.”

Thanks so much Maria!

Celiahttps://www.goldengiving.com/fundraising/celiabouch

Celia is one of our specialist InterAction Project Coordinators working in our twice-weekly drop-in service. Celia joined us in 2020 and has been an integral part of the team ever since. It’s her fourth time running the Great North Run and we’re thrilled that she decided to fundraise for us this year.

“I am really looking forward to the Great North Run this weekend. This will be Great North Run number four for me and I hope to get my best time yet. This year I decided to run for Action Foundation and the wonderful people it supports. It will be lovely to run as part of the Action Foundation team and raise money so that the charity can continue to deliver a range of projects.”

Thanks so much to Celia!

Dave – https://www.goldengiving.com/fundraising/dave-summer-challenge

Dave is our Head of Fundraising who has worked hard over the last 18 months to keep our vital services funded through the pandemic.

As if running a half marathon isn’t hard enough…. Dave has also challenged himself to do a 100-mile bike ride this summer! Dave has already raised over £400 that will go towards supporting refugees and asylum seekers across Tyne and Wear.

We caught up with Dave and he told us:

“I’m excited about doing the GNR this year, particularly given it’s the 40th anniversary, and have been amazed at people’s generosity! It should be a fun day and raising funds for the work that Action Foundation does in welcoming and supporting newly arrived asylum seekers and refugees makes it even more special.”

Thanks so much Dave for all that you do!

With just a week to go until the big day, we’re all wishing you the best of luck! Please do support our lovely team to hit their fundraising target if you can.

Good luck everyone!
