Action Hosting matches volunteers (hosts) who have a spare bedroom in their home with a destitute asylum seeker (guest) who needs a place to stay for a short period of time.

The hosts are fully trained and our thorough matching process ensures placements are a positive experience on both sides.

All our guests are assigned a support worker to ensure they are getting access to support. It’s a chance for someone who is in a really vulnerable position to get some stability and improve their circumstances. The last thing they need to be worrying about is where they’re going to sleep tonight, on top of everything else they’re going through.

We asked Abdullah*, one of our previous Action Hosting guests what impact the scheme has had on his life…

“I spent almost four months under the care of Action Foundation’s hosting scheme. I was homeless and desperate, so naturally I was grateful they accepted to host me. Going into the scheme, I have to admit that I didn’t expect anything more than just a roof over my head, but what I didn’t anticipate was the quality of service I was going to receive.

I lived with three different amazing families. Action Hosting didn’t just provide me with a place to stay, the scheme gave me true friends. I have been on holiday with some, been invited to birthdays, family gatherings, gone camping and so forth.

These people have become more like a family and this would have never happened had it not been for Action Hosting scheme. I sincerely thank Action Foundation for the work they do, not only with hosts but also the guests. Expectations are well managed and I have only got good words to say about my experience with them.
