We are happy to welcome Govindi  as our new Employability Officer. Originally from Canada, Govindi brings valuable experience supporting student refugees and international volunteers and we're thrilled to have her join our team helping displaced workers.

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi, I'm Govindi Dyal, the new Employability Officer at Action Foundation! I am originally from Canada, but moved to the UK two years ago, spending the last couple of years in London, and now I'm up in Newcastle! I love to go hiking and exploring new neighbourhoods, so I'm really excited to get to know the North East as much as I know the South.

What's your career background?

I previously worked at a development NGO back in Ottawa, Canada, where I worked with student refugees who recently resettled across Canada, helping them become more familiar with making their university town feel like home. I also worked with all our international volunteers to share their experiences and the job they were doing abroad about ways they were tackling gender equality, enhancing youth economic opportunities and supporting climate action, taking their experiences and sharing them across a wider Canadian audience.

What's your new role?

As the Employability Officer, I will be supporting our displaced care worker clients to assist them in their job search around the North EastI also get the opportunity to support our volunteers teaching English classes, attending our weekly Women's drop-in to create a space for women to improve their conversational English skills, and providing one-one sessions with our clients. Through this journey I'm really excited to get to know all our great volunteers and clients!

What drew you to work for Action Foundation?

Action Foundation's unique mission to support those who are often dismissed really resonated with me. Taking a hands-on approach to tackling some of the wider social issues that many are not even aware exists proves that this is an invaluable organization that I am grateful to be part of!
