Action Foundation has unveiled its seasonal appeal to help support homeless refugees and asylum seekers this winter.
Our Raise the Roof Crowdfunder is being supported by our friends at the Aviva Community Fund, meaning every pound donated up to the value of £250 is doubled. That means every donation we receive will have twice the impact.
Why Raise the Roof?
In the past three months alone we’ve seen a six fold increase in the number of people coming to us who have nowhere to live.
In common with those in other parts of the country, people seeking sanctuary in the North East are facing a homelessness emergency this winter as local councils struggle to provide accommodation. With sky-high private rents and a shortage of social housing, many people are literally being left out in the cold with just a sleeping bag or flimsy tent to keep off the rain and snow.
How will your money help?
We are doing all we can here at Action Foundation to help people find somewhere to live. With the help of our philanthropic landlords, we manage 17 properties that we make affordable to newly recognised refugees who are given a maximum of only 28 days – and sometimes much less – to find a place to stay.
We also house destitute asylum seekers whose status is still being decided through our Action Housing project.
Our Raise the Roof Appeal will help us to improve the support we can offer people putting down new roots here, from providing accommodation in safe, warm homes to helping them learn English in order to fully integrate into the community and lead flourishing lives.
Thank you for everything you do to support people seeking safety here in the North East.
