Refugee Week is back and this year’s theme is ‘Different pasts, shared futures’. To celebrate the event and raise awareness of the fantastic work being done to support refugees living in the region we are holding a special film night in partnership with The Comfrey Project. The Comfrey Project works with refugees and asylum seekers across allotment sites in Newcastle and Gateshead to improve general well-being, support integration and provide a safe and secure place they can relax and socialise.
The film we have chosen to show is called Grow Your Own (rated PG) and encompasses this year’s theme bringing together people from all walks of life (including a refugee) to interact in the safe place of an allotment. It shows that no matter your past, we can all work together for a positive future.
We are showing the film in The Turbine Hall in The CastleGate (NE1 2JQ). There will be the opportunity to buy popcorn or a drink from our bar before the film starts. After the film there will be a short presentation where The Comfrey Project and Action Foundation will be able to talk about the work that we do and answer any questions the film may have raised.
