Every day, our volunteers give their time, energy and care to support others — and we simply couldn’t do what we do without you.

Here’s a special #VolunteersWeek thank you message from our CEO to all of you who make such a difference.

Here at Action Foundation, we are proud to have a dedicated group of volunteers whose unwavering generosity is the backbone of the services we deliver.

This Volunteers’ Week, we would like to thank each and every one of you for all that you do.

It’s your efforts that inspire hope and bring about real change. Our achievements simply wouldn’t be possible without you.

Before I started as Chief Executive, I came to visit the services. I found myself surrounded by all these amazing volunteers and witnessed the wonderful ways they support asylum seekers and refugees – helping them to find their feet and take their first steps to create a new life safe from the hardships they have fled.

I’ve worked alongside volunteers for over twenty years and I believe there are six words that sum up what it takes to be a volunteer.

To be a volunteer it takes:

  • Generosity – a willingness to give up your time for others.
  • Understanding – recognising that the lives of others might be very different from your own.
  • Empathy – an ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and feel what they must feel.
  • Compassion – to truly care about making someone else’s life better.
  • Patience – because the process doesn’t always go as smoothly as you would like it to.
  • Dedication – to stick with the work and see it through.

Our volunteers show all these qualities and so much more. For that, we are deeply grateful.
