We’re excited to launch this year’s seasonal fundraising campaign to help people seeking sanctuary in the North East.

Our Unwrap the Joy appeal is being supported by our friends at the Aviva Community Fund, meaning every pound donated up to the value of £250 is doubled. That means every donation we receive will have twice the impact.

Help us unwrap joy for refugees

Life is hard for people trying to make new lives here. Not only does the cost-of-living crisis continue to bite, but this summer’s anti-immigration protests and riots had a profound effect on the people who use our services, as shown in our recent report.

Young people said they were too scared to leave the house. A mother using our Drop-in disclosed that she was yelled at to ‘Go back to your own country’, even though she works tirelessly for our NHS.

This is not who we are as a nation or as North Easterners. We know the vast majority of people here are welcoming to those who need help.

How will your support help?

Can you help us rebuild people’s sense of belonging and unwrap joy for those seeking sanctuary here? Your donations will fund:

  • Free English and employability classes to help people make a new start
  • A warm, safe place to live for those experiencing homelessness
  • Drop-ins where people new to our region can get advice, make friends, have a hot meal, pick up winter clothing and even get a free haircut
  • Vital support services for children and young people complemented by a huge range of joyful activities from surfing to circus skills.

Above all, we extend a warm welcome – and the chance of a hopeful tomorrow.

£10  could buy a move-in pack to welcome someone to their new home

£20 could buy hot food for a Drop-in client over a whole month

£30 could buy a surf lesson for a young person to build their confidence

£50 could pay for a term’s travel for a learner to access our free English classes

£70 could pay for a week’s heating & lighting in one of our homes

Thank you for everything you do to support people seeking safety here in the North East.
