Tell us a bit about yourself

I’ve always lived in Newcastle, but surprisingly I don’t have a Geordie accent! I stay with my lovely but crazy family and I have a three-year-old nephew who I simply adore. My partner is from India, and we’re hoping to get married this year (if Covid allows). I love travelling, dancing, food, and all things Bollywood – I also enjoy a bit of DIY.

What’s your career background?

I completed my Masters in International Development at Northumbria University! I have also studied Journalism. I worked for two years as a Multiple Exclusion Outreach worker. Prior to this, I’ve spent approximately two years volunteering in different parts of India on projects related to education, poverty, health, discrimination, and a list that could go on forever.

What drew you to apply for the Support Worker job at Action Foundation?

At my previous job as a homeless outreach worker, I had many interactions with refugees and asylum seekers who were homeless and needed support to navigate the system; and faced multiple barriers due to their English language skills. This led my passion to work with asylum seekers, refugees and migrants. I came across Action Foundation when I was referring one of my clients there. I became aware of the amazing services AF provides; and how the organisation works with their clients to overcome the barriers and challenges they face – this motivated me to apply for the job at AF!
