This bank holiday our Senior Management Team are taking on an enormous challenge as part of the ‘Captain Tom 100’ fundraising weekend.

Our Chief Executive (Julian), Head of Fundraising (Dave) and Head of Client Services (Duncan) will be taking on a colossal 100-mile cycling challenge over the long weekend – ouch!

We’ll be supporting the cycling team over on our team fundraising page so please do go and sponsor our lovely lot.

We caught up with the talented trio to see how they’re feeling about their challenge….

Julian

“I have been inspired by Captain Tom who has so brilliantly demonstrated that everyone can do something to help others no matter how big or small.

I love cycling and was hoping to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats last summer and then in June but have had to cancel due to Covid on both occasions. Since then my training has very much taken a back seat and so this challenge was an ideal way to get me back in the saddle.

I am really looking forward to doing this with colleagues as I have really missed the banter in the office.”

Dave

“I’m a bit of a sucker for a challenge, so when the gauntlet was thrown down I couldn’t resist jumping in… although I quickly had second thoughts!

But seriously, I was a bit blown away by Captain Tom’s fundraising endeavour – carried out with great humility and perseverance – and the public response to it. It’s nice to be able to do something that I love (i.e. cycling in the wonderful Northumberland countryside with friends), whilst at the same time honouring Captain Tom’s memory and supporting the amazing work that we have the privilege of being involved in at Action Foundation.

In preparation, I’ve tried to up my road miles over the past couple of weeks, but I’m still a bit nervous so may have to throw in a couple of coffee/cake stops along the way!!”

Duncan

“Really looking forward to getting out on the bike with colleagues even if I’ll only be joining them for a few miles. We’re heading up as a family to cheer them on, cycle a short section and maybe even enjoy a cake stop together!”
