Laura Lowther has just joined us in the newly-created role of Inclusion Development Manager. Laura will be working on promoting equality, diversity and inclusion at Action Foundation; client engagement and ensuring people with lived experience of the UK immigration system can contribute to discussion and decision making within our charity.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I live in North Tyneside with my family – my partner and I have two brilliant boys (and a dog) who keep us busy. We love spending time together out and about, including in our allotment. I’m never far away from music and am a devoted BBC 6 Music listener. I also love to swim, do yoga and get in the sea for a bob about whenever I can.

What’s your career background?

I recently led a national partnership project at NCVO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations) focused on improving volunteer experience into the future. My previous position was as Head of Volunteering at St Oswald’s Hospice in Newcastle who provide amazing, specialist care for patients and families. I’ve just returned to Newcastle Foodbank as a Trustee after originally volunteering in a communications role with them in 2017. I’ve enjoyed a variety of other positions in my career so far and have been a part of the North East charity sector for over 15 years now.

What’s your new role?

I’m delighted to join Action Foundation as Inclusion Development Manager. The role focuses on three overlapping areas of work – Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, client engagement and lived experience contribution and representation – it’s all about developing and enhancing an inclusive culture right across the organisation. It’s a brand new role and very exciting!

What drew you to apply for a job at Action Foundation?

After enjoying a national role for nearly two years I felt really ready to put my energy back into Newcastle and North East communities. The work of Action Foundation strikes me as incredibly impactful and is led by really appealing organisational values – Courage, Compassion, Integrity and Inclusion. It feels like such a privilege to join such an incredible place – I can’t wait to get started!
